Whether you come for brunch, lunch or dinner, Aquitaine always delivers an exceptional experience. The Aquitaine Group just opened its third location at Legacy Place in Dedham offering the same quality food and service the other two locations have become so well known for.
We started off with a glass of wine at the comfortable wine bar at the front of the restaurant, which was bustling on a weekday evening. The wine list was quite varied and reasonably priced for a French bistro.
Our friendly server suggested we sample the mussels en cassolette with Sancerre, their signature appetizer. This appetizer was a savory surprise and hailed the winning selection. Be sure to save a few pieces of the fresh French loaf to soak up the creme fraiche and thyme sauce. The creamy mushroom soup du jour was tasty and rich. Don’t miss the jumbo shrimp cocktail served with a side of spicy horseradish.
Other appetizers included their popular onion soup gratinee with gruyere crouton and aged sherry wine, lobster bisque, fried mussels, tuna tartare, escargots with garlic and a warm beet salad.
Moving right along, our server suggested we sample the pan roasted cod and we were glad he did. Loaded with chorizo and topped with a rich, creamy sauce Americaine, there was no question how this fish became one of their most popular dishes. The flavorful steak frites was tender and juicy but the fries arrived warm. There are so many wonderful dishes here, including duck confit with creamed spinach and swordfish Provencal. Next visit, we look forward to sampling the free range brick chicken with oyster mushrooms and sole Meuniere.
Executive Chef Seth Woods and Chef de Cuisine Kevin Kielbasa have designed a well executed French menu that is reasonably priced. Entrees range from $14.95 to $27.95 and there are “plat du jour” specials, which included roasted white marble pork tenderloin, beef tenderloin brochettes, Arctic char, roasted swordfish au poivre, braised lamb shank, espresso glazed short ribs and rock shrimp and chanterelle ragout.
You can’t beat the Sunday brunch, which for $9.95 per person, includes a choice of vanilla French toast, scrambled eggs or omelette lyonnaise along with their famous cinnamon bun, a cup of coffee or tea and a glass of orange or grapefruit juice. This just might be the best deal in town.
