If you thought great dining experiences were limited to an urban setting, it’s time to step inside Abby Park, the long awaited restaurant located in the former Video to Go space in East Milton Square. Abby Park delivers creative local fresh dishes and well done comfort food in a comfortable yet upscale space. The restaurant opened in August after a total renovation and now offers an expansive bar, beautiful dining room and intimate private room on the lower level for small gatherings.
We started off with the apple wood smoked bacon, aged cheddar and golden delicious apple pizza. What an amazing take on the traditional flatbread pizza. The chef and consistently confidently refines the ultraseasonal menu into a gastronomical delight. The symphony of flavors found on the nightly menu should truly be commended.
One night, you may start off with grilled lamb lollipops with fig jam (like we did), continue on with grilled dry aged sirloin and Guinness steak sauce and cap off the evening with cinnamon brioche bread pudding. Other appetizers included frito misto of shrimp and calamari, slow roasted pork cigars, baked brie, Thai chili shrimp, eggplant tocchetti and Cape Cod clam chowder.
The bowl of rigatoni was unlike any we had tasted – loaded with braised pork, butternut squash and toasted pumpkin seeds, this dish had all of the flavors of fall wrapped into one mouthwatering entrée. The 12-ounce ribeye was cooked to a medium rare perfection, and provided a tender and juicy performance. The garlicky side dishes caught our eye and we indulged in the garlic mashed potatoes and garlic spinach, both of which were generously portioned to share.
Some specials of the evening included haddock with pancetta and romesco crust as well as a venison rib chop. There were four choice cuts of beef offered (all boneless), including an 8-ounce flat iron, 8-ounce filet, 12-ounce ribeye and 10-ounce Kobe beef flank steak.
Our server, Mohammed, was extremely attentive and friendly, offering suggestions on pairings with wine and signature dishes. Owner Vance Welch was seen throughout the restaurant visiting guests and ensuring each table an enjoyable experience.
We decided to end the memorable evening with a cup of coffee alongside a fun sampling of “small bites” – key lime pie, chocolate pecan pie, gingerbread and apple crisp. Seasonal desserts included white chocolate cheesecake, pumpkin crème brulee, flourless chocolate cake and cinnamon brioche bread pudding.
The makeover of Abby Park’s landmark location, plush ambiance, attentive service, reasonably priced entrees and laudable menu will surely make this restaurant a success.
