In honor of 'Where the Wild Things Are' movie, a look at some cool kid monster stuff

The new movie based on the popular children's book 'Where the Wild Things Are' hits theaters this weekend. The film is based on Maurice Sendak’s beloved 1963 children’s book and it is getting good early reviews. (Check out the trailer at the bottom of this story!) If you've got a monster lover, check out these cool monster things they might enjoy along with the film or just for Halloween...

Curly Q Cuties makes THE cutest, coolest made-to-order monsters. They can be boy monsters, girly monsters, even silly monsters. They're all cute and custom to your child's liking. Part of the fun is sitting down with your little one and picking out the design, from body type, eyes, mouth, colors and more. It's so cool. Plus it's made in the USA and really soft.

Rich Frog's Terrible Twos Shoes turn your little one into a little monster. The slippers are made in several monster-like designs. They only come in one size - toddler size 7.

You can also get another good pair of monster feet with the cool and warm Nowali Monster Moccasins. These are Swedish mocs that keep tootsie toes snuggly. My daughter never wants to take these off, cause monsters can be cool for girls too!

Where The Wild Things Are book is a classic that will spark your child's imagination and will serve as a good preview or follow up to watching the new movie in theatres. The Scholastic video includes Where The Wild Things Are and several other stories written and illustrated by Maurice Sendak. Perfect addition to your monster-themed collection!

Monsters, Inc. is a great kids DVD starring friendly monsters voiced by the likes of John Goodman, Billy Crystal and others. It gives a "behind the scenes look" at monster scare tactics with a happy ending. I love this movie and so do both of my daughters.

If your little one is scared of monsters, check out THIS guide for scaring them away.

For parents, there's an interesting interview with the new Wild Things movie director Spike Jonze at NPR with all sorts of interesting details about the making of the movie and the casting of the kid actor who'd never acted before this movie.
