Tracy van Ravensway
In today's Do It All Mamas (& Papas) the spotlight is on Tracy van Ravensway, mother of Emma, age 3 and Nathan, 20 months old, and owner of Tiny Tater Tees.
Examiner: Tell me something unique/interesting about yourself.
Tracy: It is always hard to describe oneself. I would have to say that I am creative and innovative. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and constantly come up with new inventions. The latest is a great new product for parents and small children. You will have to wait and see if it makes it out to the store shelves. I will let you know.
Examiner: What is your business all about?
Tracy: My company is called Tiny Tater Tees. It is an organic line of clothing, growth charts, toys, bags, pictures and soap for kids. Our prints are made by hand carving potatoes and using them as a stamp (hence our name). The prints are colorful, unique and fun…and eco-friendly.
Examiner: What is your favorite product that you make or sell and why do you like or recommend it?
Tracy: This is a hard question. I love everything…of course. The tree and truck growth chart and boat print are some of my top favorites. The growth charts are unique and the boat shirt was the first shirt I made for my son. It has sentimental value.
Examiner: Why did you start your business?
Tracy: My mother told me about potato printing. I started making the shirts for my kids. After many compliments, I turned it into a business. It is a great way to be able to stay home with my kids, do something fun by tapping into my creativity, and make some money to pay the bills.
Examiner: What secret do you have to share with other parents about "having it all" with your family and business?
Tracy: If you enjoy what you do…you can do it all, family and business. It is so true. You will enjoy your family more if you are happy in your endeavors.
Examiner: What is the number one piece of advice you have for other parents?
Tracy: Have balance in your life. I have told a few friends before, “Get your groove”. Meaning, when you have a routine, things will come easier. You will get into a “groove”, which also gives you time to breathe.
Examiner: What is your (and your kids) favorite family activity?
Tracy: Our family loves to swim together. Our daughter just took swim lessons and our son has no fear. They just giggle a lot when we swim. We love to see them smile.
Examiner: Anything else you want to add?
Tracy: Enjoy life with your kids. They grow up so fast…but it gets more fun as they grow. And…give them lots of kisses. My kids are daily inspiration for my work.
