In today's Do It All Mamas (& Papas) the spotlight is on Carys Bice, mom of 8 year old Peyton, 6 year old Jacob and 4 year old Ellie and founder of tinytongs - innovative new child’s eating utensils. (Read my review of tinytongs HERE.)
Examiner: Tell me something unique/interesting about yourself.
Carys: I have my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy. Although I quit practicing when my first child was born I draw on my education as much as I can to help in parenting my own children.
Examiner: What is your business all about?
Carys: Carys LLC is developing innovative, practical solutions to make life easier and more fun (like tinytongs). Using great design Carys LLC is filling needs for products that not only look great but function well.
Examiner: What is your favorite product that you make or sell and why do you like or recommend it?
Carys: tinytongs is the first product from Carys LLC. tinytongs is a unique, innovative way for kids to eat. tinytongs make mealtime easier and more fun for young children, which makes it less stressful and less messy for parents. tinytongs patent pending design utilizes the children's pincer grasp to help kids feel successful at self feeding.
Examiner: Why did you start your business?
Carys: I started Carys LLC to bring tinytongs to the market. With three young children mealtime had become stressful and messy. I wanted to help make mealtime easier, more fun and less stressful.
Examiner: What secret do you have to share with other parents about "having it all" with your family and business?
Carys: As a business owner I spend a lot of time feeling that I'm not able to give enough time to either the business or my family. My kids love to be involved and spend time with me. Whether it's sitting next to me and coloring while I'm working or sharing their ideas for what they'll invent when they grow up we keep our kids very involved in the whole process of running a business. It helps us spend extra time together and helps my kids understand what I'm doing when we need to spend time apart.
Examiner: What is the number one piece of advice you have for other parents?
Carys: Enjoy the everyday moments that make up a great life. As entrepreneurs we can get focused on the goals for the future and thinking about what's next. It doesn't take a big trip, party or things to make my kids happy and give them a great childhood. All they need is my undivided attention during the day. Turning off the computer, setting aside my to do list and just being present. They are more than willing to lead me in their favorite activity.
Examiner: What is your (and your kids) favorite family activity?
Carys: Our family loves to spend time in the snow. It's so beautiful and magical and bright. Time seems to slow down, the world gets quiet and you can just take time to be together. We love enjoying an active day in the snow followed by a cozy night by the fire talking and playing.
