Celebrate Earth Day with eco-friendly baby/tot bath products

Make a pledge to your children this Earth Day to start using only eco-friendly bath products on their skin. Today's the perfect day to start. Here are some great smelling and feeling products I've tried with my baby and toddlers that are filled with eco-goodness...

SallyeAnder Soaps makes high-quality, all-natural, handmade soap and skin-care products. This family owned company has been making soaps in New York state for a quarter of a century. Each SallyeAnder soap has a base of olive oil and soy, with no artificial dyes or colors and don't disintegrate from artificial latherants. Their soaps are designed to be used by everyone from newborns on up. The aromas from SallyeAnder Soaps fill up the bathroom and make for a nice fresh smell in the air just by having them in the bathroom. No need to spray anything. Ones to try: Hogwash! soap which is good for skin and clothes cleaning. They also make one to keep bugs at bay without spraying on any added chemicals called No Bite Me.

The Kir DeVries Natural All in One Shampoo & Body Bar came out of a need. Kir had terrible eczema, which led his mom to detox their bath routine and come up with this product. It's all natural and non-toxic but makes a nice thick yummy smelling lather with a scent everyone in the family can enjoy. Being an all in one bar it eliminates wasted bottles and cuts down the product packaging down to nearly nothing.

The new complete skin care line for kids, Episencial features all natural formulas - loaded with organics - made with solar power manufacturing and sustainable and recycled packaging materials. The products are all chemical free and made in the USA and available at shops like Target and Whole Foods. They are so delicious smelling. We've tried the Sweet Dreams Bubble Bath (a HUGE hit with my girls), Playful Foaming Wash, Better Body Butter, and Protective Face Balm. Each has a sweet smell of fresh fruit. A summer treat for everyone in the family, as it is designed for everyone 0 to 150 years old!

NuboNau - the Natural & Organic Skincare Boutique- has a whole line of 100% natural baby bath line. Some ones I've enjoyed include: Erbaviva Happy Bath Essence which contains a blend of Mandarin, Chamomile and Lavender to relieve over-stimulation & crankiness in children... a few drops of this and the whole bathroom becomes an oasis; Erbaviva's Baby Soap with honey, milk and lavender; and for the hair check out the natural and non-toxic yet still sudsy Erbaviva Baby Shampoo with herbal extracts of Oregon grape and Quilaja (from the Chilean soap bark tree). It's even gentle enough to use on newborns.

Now available in the US, the all-natural, 95% organic, toxin, chemical and paraben-free line baby products from the popular UK company The Organic Pharmacy. The Apricot & Chamomile Baby Wash and Shampoo fill the air with a gentle, kissable smell of apricot. Their Mother and Baby Massage Oil has calendula and lavender for a calming effect to wrap up everyone's day with soft skin.

Owens Acres' Lavender Calm Set is handmade using "sustainable, bio-dynamic" growing methods. Owens Acres are members of Co-op America. They sell their products through World of Good by Ebay, an online market for sustainable products from 85 countries with all listings verified by third party organizations like World Fair Trade Org, Rainforest Alliance, Green America and others. The lavender set has a bold, yet not overpowering scent that fills the air with just enough goodness and leaves you feeling restful.

Purgood Organics were created by two moms wanting pure ingredients in their babies bath products. The Purgood Baby Wash and Baby Lotion are free of artificial colors, fragrance, parabens and sulfates. Purgood products are made from pure fruit and vegetable extracts. They have a barely there smell yet still pleasure the nose with hints of relaxation.

Flower Peddler's Little Buds Foaming Baby Wash is fun for toddlers with its foaming bubbles while being gentle enough for the tiniest babies. This vegan body and hair shampoo is made with organic aloe, vegetable glycerin, and organic lavender, mandarin, and chamomile essential oils for a soft, sweet smell and really nice feeling clean. This one doesn't have any SLS, parabens, or artificial dyes either.

Burt's Bees' Baby Bee Buttermilk Soap smells soft and fresh. It's made with buttermilk, oat flour and honey. Leaving perfectly scented and soft little bees after tub time! Plus it's 98.47% natural while being SLS-, phthalate- and paraben-free. Their whole line of Baby Bee products are delightful as well.

Babyface vegan organic lavender soap bar made by the San Diego Natural Soap Company is a great choice for babies. The scent is barely there but will add some relaxation for baby and parents during those early rubadubdubs. This bar is long lasting as well.

The sustainable company i.c. organics makes refreshing lotion, oil and baby wash that make you want to breathe in deep with a hint of a citrusy smell. Every purchase helps others too, as 10% of the proceeds benefit Justice for Children, a nonprofit group that provides legal advocacy for abused children.
