Ultrasound of a baby's body (no girl or boy parts in this pic)
When you're clinging to the edge of your cold doctor's office table waiting for the ultrasound tech to finally get around to peeking at your baby's private parts - you want to know what you're seeing ASAP.
I know for all my children, I've wanted to see as many ultrasound photos of boys and girls as possible to compare those to what I can make out in mine and "make sure" the ultrasound tech got it right!
Prepare yourself by knowing what to look for. A girl's ultrasound will have three little lines, often referred to as a "hamburger." A boy's ultrasound will have three dots at a very early stage and eventually you'll see the official "turtle head," as it's called.

I really delighted in having the ultrasounds when I was pregnant.
That said, "hamburger" and "turtle head" here just cracked me right the heck up. Love it!
This is exactly what I was looking for!! I thought Id be the only person who ever googled something like this in order to compare to what I saw in my ultrasound!! The examiner said she thought maybe a boy but it was very early to tell... But Im dying to know!!!! Im pretty certain Im having my 2nd boy after viewing your pics. thanks : )

Im a sonographer and just want to caution everyone to not consider their ultrasound scan to be 100% accurate in terms of gender identification. There are a lot of factors that can influence the quality of the exam including the examiner's skill level, baby position and yes - even the size of the "turtle head". Additionally, the mother's hormones have an effect on the female fetus so the "hamburger" could look like a double whopper or a scrotum. The knowledgable sonographer will caution against painting the nursery pink or blue based soley on the sonogram. That said, when the scan is done by a qualified sonographer (not in a entertainment studio!) and the proper views are obtained the likelihood of a correct diagnosis is high.

Hi realtime glad to know ur a sonographer. I had my u/s done at 19wks and the tech told me it was a girl. What was interesting was that i cud swear i saw " a turtle" but looking bk at the dvd i see the double whopper and not 3 lines cud this b a boy or am i imagining things??? please advice
I just had an ultresound and the sonographer said its a boy. it looks like there are 3 white lines on the top of the boy parts. the ultrasound was done at my 18 week appointment. could this be a girl, or is it a boy for sure. please help.
jessica - ultrasounds are not 100%... of course the more you get that tell you the same thing the more likely it is that you could paint blue or pink walls. but all sonographers, even the most experienced ones will caution that there's no guarantee until birth. if i was you i'd go with what the experienced professional that took my u/s told me. my sister thought she saw lines on her u/s or her son but she was incorrect. it was circles that were blurred from movement. she just had him and he was all boy. if you're really anxious about it, talk with your ob!
I had a scan at 20w/5days and i saw 2 lines slightly 3rd one; but i could also see something that looks like a boy part. The angle was way behind the butt (toilet shot). *Maybe it could have been the cord of hands*. The doc said she was 85% sure but idk... I'm still hoping for a boy tho.
I had a ultrasound done at 15 weeks and the baby had its legs closed so we couldnt tell then i had my 20 week ultrasound and it was a baby girl.
i had an ultrasound done at 19w/4days and the babys legs were closed but we were able to get a quick shot between the legs and the woman said its 50 50 so we dont kno but sometimes i look at it and it looks like 3 lines and sometimes i look at it and it looks like a scrotum so we dont kno but we are a little disappointed but maybe its better kept a suprise

I got an ultrasound at 21 weeks but the lady was no sure but she thinks she saw the three lines, i'm not convinced it is, because I have two girls already and the picture was from the back end like the other lady mentioned, or maybe i'm just in denial that I will be having another GIRL... but, I also developed this rare rash all over my body called "pregnancy pupps" in researching this new development I learned that lady's that do get this rash 70 % of them give birth to baby boys! so now I am really confused.
I had my U/S at 19 weeks 6 days. My doctor sent me to a lab where they did U/S. The technician who gave the U/S seemed very young and not experienced. She had me in there for 30 min saying the baby was moving way to much. Then she said "if i had to say the gender i would say girl because i dont see boy parts". When i asked her to show me the girl parts she said she couldnt because the baby moved to much and then she said " i am not sure verify with your OB"! WHAT SHOULD I BELEIVE? SHOULD I GET READY FOR A GIRL OR WAIT HOW ACCURATE DO YOU THINK THIS TECH WAS?
darleen- call your OB this week and ask for her professional opinion. the lab tech will have given her copies of the ultrasound photos and she'll be able to give you some insights. ultrasounds are far from a precise science and even good techs can be wrong. if you are really concerned ask your doc if she can order another ultrasound with a different tech and don't drink anything sweet or eat beforehand, as it can make the baby move around alot! good luck!

in my ultersound dr. say its girl baby but she did not write in my written report what its mean i think she is not sour

hi i cant believe that i found what i was looking for well i have two boys and i am 22 weeks pregnant and i want a girl so bad i cant stand it and i had my ultra sound today and the doctor said he sees three lines and that he was not 100 percent sure but he thinks its a girl i have the picture you can see the three lines does this really mean a girl cause i cant take i ltelling me its a girl again and then out pops a boy i love my boys but i long to have a baby girl. then my life will be complete .

What gets me is these ultra sounds are supposed to be for checking very important organs, etc...and detecting birth defects. If we cannot rely on the tech being able to tell us the sex, how do we know all the other things they are checking is being done right?

hi! i had an ultrasound today, and my ob told me its a boy, i can't believe because i'm expecting a baby girl. i have a 2boys already. many of my friends and family are expecting for the girls. i'm so disappointed. but it's okey bec. its a gift of god..

I havn't been to my 20 week OB appt. however, I have a friend who does sonagrams in general. I currenty have three girls, and of course a boy would be a pleasant surprise. It's not looking good. During a 17 week sonogram there appeared to be nothing there. The cord is between the baby's legs, but not so close we can't see. She's sure it's a girl, and I suppose I am too. I love my girls, and I'm gonna love her too. But if we're wrong, I'll love my little boy too.

I went and had a ultrasound done at 22 weeks and the ultrasound said that it a a boy, but for some reason I feel like its a girl. The picture to me looks like a hamburger but does not have three white lines I'm going to be happy either way but I just don't want to go out and buy blue things when out comes a girl.
