August 30 is National Toasted Marshmallow Day. Time to light the campfire, sit around, tell stories, and toast marshmallows. You just need a good stick or a campfire fork and some marshmallows.
Marshmallows have been around since the mid 1800s. The first mention of a toasted marshmallow was in a girl scout publication in 1927. It contained the recipe for S'mores.
Marshmallows are most popular with Americans. They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. The big white ones are the favorite for toasting. You can even make your own marshmallows in different flavors and colors.
Make it a point to have a toasted marshmallow with your child and if you have graham crackers and chocolate it can be even messier. What fun!
