Doctor claims to have created human babies from cloning

Severino Antinori, a doctor in Italy, is claiming to have used a human cloning technique to help produce 3 children, 2 boys and 1 girl. He said the cloning technique is an "improvement" over the one that produced Dolly the sheep several years ago.

Antinori claims that the children are now 9 years old, living in Eastern Europe, and are healthy. He says that he used cells from the fathers, all of whom were sterile, to complete the cloning procedure.

The doctor then refused to give more detail, citing patient privacy. However, he said that he used a method called "nuclear transfer" to successfully complete the cloning.

Cloning is illegal in Italy, so the doctor prefers to speak about 'genetic recoding' or 'innovative therapies.'

Antinori has previously gained fame after helping a 63-year-old woman give birth in 1994, and recently announced that he would artificially inseminate a woman whose husband is in an irreversible coma.
