In this new series we will be exploring ideas for keeping kids busy and quiet by using busy bags. In upcoming weeks, you can expect specific ideas for keeping kids occupied during worship services, in the car, in a doctor's office, at weddings and in other situations that can be tricky for parents and kids.
With a little planning, you can create a busy bag full of interesting and educational activities. Your child gets to learn and have fun and you can maintain your sanity. Moms all over the country have shared busy bag ideas that work, but before we get specific about what to put in the bags, let's go over a few tips.
1. Visit yard sales, dollar stores and clearance aisles for cheap items that your child might enjoy. Often times, the most inexpensive activities are the ones that will hold your child's attention.
2. When you find new items, stash them away. If you let kids play with items before they are needed in the busy bags, they won't have the same boredom-busting effect.
3. Customize your busy bag for the situation. A wedding busy bag might include bride and groom paper dolls or a disposable camera while a doctor's office busy bag might include a model of the human body.
4. Rotate busy bag items often to keep activities feeling special and interesting for the child.
