Last week we looked at some letter K activities. This week we will discover some creative ways to explore the letter L. Choose the activities that best fit your child's age and interests and be sure to check the photo album at the bottom of the page for pictures of example activities.
Letter L activity options:
- Think about words that begin with L. Letter L words include label, labyrinth, lace, lips, log, lock, ladder, leopard, llama, lava, ladybug, loop, lake, lace, lamb, lantern, lemon, lollipop, love, lash, leash, latke, laugh, light, leaf, learn, leather, left, legs, library, lid and liquid.
- Make a letter L from leaves.
- Take a field trip to a local lake, library or lumber yard.
- Incorporate geography by learning about places like Lithuania, Latvia and Libya.
- Draw a volcano with lava flowing down in the shape of an L.
- Glue toothpicks to a sheet of paper in the shape of a ladder and then take a marker and trace the letter L shape that is made between each rung.
- Sing some letter L songs. See Everything Preschool for a list.
- Celebrate your study of the letter L by eating foods like lemon bars, leeks, lollipops, lamb, lentils and latkes.
- Decorate a sheet of paper with dried lentils of various colors in the shape of the letter L.
- Squirt lotion on your child's leg in the shape of an L.
- Draw a ladybug with black marker on a sheet of red paper. Make the ladybug's dots in the shape of an L.
- Cut out the shape of an L from cardboard and use a puncher to make holes around the outside edge. Lace yarn through the holes.
- Use Sillycone trays to freeze lemonade into the shape of an L.
- Paint a letter L using lemon juice. Help your child hold it in front of a hot light bulb to make the L appear in brown.
