Last week, we had a great time learning about the Letter R. This week, let's have some fun discovering the letter P.
Some words that begin with the letter P are piano, purple, paper, picture, pink, pickle, paint, and puzzle.
Menu:
Pumpkin pancakes or pumpkin muffins
Pineapple smoothie
Pizza with peppers and pepperoni
Peach popsicles
Pita bread with peanut butter
Pasta with pesto sauce or parmesan cheese
Math & Science:
- Give each child a pail and take them on a nature walk to collect pine cones. Look over the pine cones and talk about the different sizes. Have the children put them in order from small to large, etc. Then ask the children to count how many pine cones they've collected, as they put them back in the pail.
- Put a familiar item in a paper bag. You can either tape the paper bag closed and ask the children to try and determine what is inside by feeling the item and shaking the bag, or keep the bag open and have the child close their eyes or put a blindfold on and try to determine what is in the bag by touching it.
- Give each child assorted sized paper cups. Let the children experiment with the cups by nesting one inside the other and stacking them on top of each other.
Arts & Crafts:
- Make play-doh or peanut butter play-doh.
- Create paper bag puppets, and have a puppet show.
- Check out this pine cone pony craft at About.com, or make a pine cone wreath using a paper plate. If you can't locate any pine cones outside, you can purchase some at Michael's or another craft store.
- Design paper plate masks and walk in a parade.
- Gather some different sized paper cups, paint, and paper. Have the children dip the paper cups in the paint and press to the paper. Talk about the different sized circles and pictures that they made.
Field Trips:
- Take the children to a local park or playground for a picnic or to search for pine cones. The Francis William Bird Park in Walpole has over three miles of walking paths.
- If the weather is not appropriate for an outdoor field trip, try one of these indoor play areas: Imajine That in Lawrence or Kids Fun Stop in West Roxbury.
