The Criterion Collection has announced one of their most ambitious DVD releases just in time for the hundredth birthday of the great Akira Kurosawa. (2010). Perhaps the most influential film maker in history; Among his masterpieces are: Rashomon , Seven Samurai and Kagemusha. Criterion is presenting a linen-bound collector’s set, entitled "AK 100: 25 Films by Akira Kurosawa", in time for the holidays. The set will be the most extensive collection of the filmmaker’s works ever released in the US; including five films not seen in previous Criterion sets. Included for the first time are the four early films: Sanshiro Sugata; Sanshiro Sugata, Part Two; The Most Beautiful; and The Men Who Tread on the Tiger’s Tail as well as Kurosawa’s memorable final film, Madadayo. Included is a new ninety-six page book written by Stephen Prince and Donald Richie.
