This week on DVD - October 6, 2009

Disney is headlining this week's DVD and Blu-ray releases as they release Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs from their infamous "vault"! As a child I remember actually wearing out my VHS copy of this from watching it so much and since then I have never owned a copy. This is going to be a great edition of this film with some interesting special features, including a documentary exploring story boards that hints that Walt Disney was considering making a sequel to this film, as well as a sneak peak at the first five minutes at Disney's return to animated film, The Princess and the Frog!

This is a must own for any Disney film fan out there, and as usual with these Disney films you'll need to pick this one up quickly before they put it back in their vault!

Next up we have Year One coming to DVD this week. I neglected to see this one in theaters as I heard pretty much nothing but negative things about this. However, I am a fan of Michael Cera, Jack Black, and Harold Ramis, so despite all the negative I've heard about Year One, I plan to check this one out now that it's on DVD and it looks like it comes packaged with quite a few special features:

  • Commentary with Director Harold Ramis, Jack Black, and Michael Cera
  • Alternate Ending: Sodom Destruction
  • Extended & Alternate Scenes
  • Line-O-Rama
  • Gag Reel
  • Sodom's Got 'Em!
  • And Lots More!

Just in time for Halloween we have the Blu-ray release of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein starring Kenneth Branagh in the lead role and Robert DeNiro as his monster. This is my favorite adaptation of the classic story and the Blu-ray release couldn't have better timing. If this movie doesn't get you in the mood for Halloween, nothing will.

To wrap up this week, we have one that you really should stay away from, if nothing else on principle alone. Dance Flick is the latest in a long line of movie-genre spoofs that all started off with Scary Movie. Since then, the Wayans Brothers or producers/directors of the Scary Movie franchise have churned out not-funny spoof after not-funny spoof. Perhaps if everyone finally stops going to see these and buying them on DVD the creators will have no choice but to stop making them? Just say "no" to Date Movie, Epic Movie, or any other _______ Movie made. Ever.

Other notable releases this week: Bones (S4) • Nip/Tuck (S5/V2) • Dark Country • Red Dwarf: Back to Earth • How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Blu-ray) • Ghostbusters 1 & 2 Gift Set • Paranormal State (S3)

As always, all of these titles are now available on Amazon!
