August 31, 2010 DVD & Blu-ray: Why Did I Get Married Too?

Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too? is dramedy sequel to the 2007 film Why Did I Get Married? where the entire cast from the first film reprises their respective roles. In the sequel, the four couples gather together at a Bahamas resort for their annual one-week reunion. They are: Patricia and Gavin Agnew (Janet Jackson and Malik Yoba), Sheila and Troy Jackson (Jill Scott and Lamman Rucker), Diane and Terry Brock (Sharon Leal and Tyler Perry) and Angela and Marcus Williams (Tasha Smith and Michael Jai White).

While the four couples are reconnecting and sharing news about their lives and relationships, Sheila's ex-husband Mike (Richard T. Jones), who owns part of the timeshare, shows up hoping to win Sheila back. Everyone is uncomfortable with him disrupting the festivities. There are more problems as Sheila's husband Troy is stressing over his unemployment troubles since they moved from Colorado to Atlanta to be closer to Sheila's mother. The last of their savings had been spent to afford this trip and they hope things will turn around soon, especially since they recently had their first child. Terry suspects his wife Dianne is cheating because of her sudden "glow." Angela's husband Marcus is a highly paid sportscaster on "Sports Shuffle." His flirtatious nature irritates Angela, causing much jealousy and endless arguments. During the vacation when the four couples gather together to discuss "why did I get married," Patricia announces she and Gavin are getting a divorce, much to Gavin and everyone's surprise.

Post-vacation, back at home Patricia and Gavin are having it all out trying to divide their assets. Gavin gets drunk and ends up burning their dead child's photographs. Patricia changes the locks and Gavin breaks in to get his belongings, with the help of the other guys. Later, Patricia humiliates Gavin at his workplace. Things turn extremely sour for the ex-couple quickly. Meanwhile, Troy blames Sheila for his unemployment problems. She tries to help by reaching out to her ex-husband Mike to help Troy get a job with his friend, the police chief. However, when Troy heads over to see Mike and finds Sheila at his place, he jumps to the conclusion that she is cheating on him until Sheila tells him a much more distressing truth. When Angela hears from her neighbor that sexual noises are coming from her bedroom every Tuesday and Thursday, she decides to catch Marcus in the act, only to find an unexpected couple. Finally, Terry's suspicions grow stronger when Diane accidentally calls him "Phil" one day and brings home dinner and flowers another day.

Will the four couples be able to resolve their issues and remember "why did I get married"?

Dwayne Johnson makes a cameo appearance. The film was halted for a short period of time until Janet Jackson was able to return to finish filming her scenes, after the untimely death of her brother Michael Jackson.

I've never been able to get into Tyler Perry films, and haven't seen "Why Did I Get Married Too?" But I'm always impressed with the diverse and talented cast Perry gets for his movie, and by all accounts doing this film was a welcome respite for Janet Jackson after Michael's untimely death.

  • Looks funny.. Tyler Perry cracks me up.
