In keeping with all things Twilight this week, we'll be looking at a few choice films starring Bella Swan herself, Kristen Stewart. Her short career includes some great diversity, so you can enjoy her stylings no matter what your mood may be.
Panic Room: This was Miss Stewart's breakout role as Jodie Foster's daughter in this gripping and tightly-woven thriller. The movie follows the home invasion of Sarah (Stewart) and Meg (Foster) Altman by three clever criminals (Jared Leto, Forrest Whitaker, Dwight Yoakam). This movie is not for the faint of heart, but offers a genuinely intriguing premise.
Grade: B+
In the Land of Women: This cute quarter-life crisis drama stars the highly charismatic Adam Brody as Carter, a man who returns to the prickly but loving arms of his grandmother (Olympia Dukakis). What really propels the story is his relationship with the Hardwicke women across the street, mother Sarah (Meg Ryan) and daughter Lucy (Stewart). It's hard not to wonder what isn't possible when their unstoppable forces sweep Carter away.
Grade: B+
The Cake Eaters: This quiet drama about a family following the passing of its matriarch is a slow-burn that may take some by surprise. It's a fascinating character study of love, grief, and family as the Kimborough family moves on with their lives. There is a quiet romance going on between the youngest son, Beagle (Aaron Stanford) and Georgia (Stewart), a girl who nobody seems to understand.
Grade: B
Adventureland: This nostalgia-friendly comedy from Superbad director Greg Mottola follows the hapless James (Jesse Eisenberg) as he gets his first job out of college, working at an amusement park. His adventures in glorified baby-sitting are fairly humorous (if ill-paced for a comedy), and his romance with the erstwhile Em Lewin (Stewart) is cute. Really the best bits involve Em's married boyfriend, Connell (a surprisingly sudbued Ryan Reynolds).
Grade: B
