Of the over 400 strains of hemp, why do you suppose the only one that druggies promote, the only one they claim will save the planet, is cannabis?
There’s: Sisal, Manila, Indica, Sunn, Spontanea, Borealis, Medioruthenica, Australis, Asiatica, Datisca, Sansevieria, Apocynum, Hibiscus, Nauritius … I could go on; there are plenty more, but you get the point.
“Ya-all think it could have something to do with the fact that cannabis sativa is the only one containing THC, the active ingredient that gets the user high?” Why is it, they don’t mention that fact … that it’s the only one containing THC?
Not long after hemp became part of the ‘comprehensive legalization plan for pot’, Canadian farmers were conned into growing it. Post-harvest, much of their crops lay rotting in a warehouse for there wasn’t a competitive market for it. That resulted in bankruptcies for numerous farmers.
For some reason, they could not compete with hemp grown at the 3rd-world-wages of pennies a day.
Did this stop the Vote Hemp and other organizations from promoting it as a viable crop? No. Do they care about the farmers who went bankrupt? What do you think? They’re now promoting it to America’s farmers across the nation – don’t believe me? Research it.
There’s another part of the picture they don’t tell you. You’ve possibly had one of them tell you this. Next time, be ready. Laugh right in their face and tell them “the rest of the story”!
They often state the fact that George Washington grew hemp and that’s correct, he did. but that was before there were cheaper and more effective products to produce sails and ropes. What they don’t tell you is, for him to grow it as a viable crop even then, Washington had to use slave labor!
Oh; there’s another reason to grow hemp – other than just part of the plan to gain acceptance of marijuana - related products and all. Hemp flowers can be used to “cut” the product – users and dealers are not all idiots; some have a real sense of marketing.

To learn the real history of hemp, read my book "The Emperor Wears No Clothes" online free. I can't put the link in here so please look it up on Google.
First of all, not all fibers are created equal. One can not produce high quality paper from ag crops such as corn stalks.
Secondly, not all strains of cannabis contain high amounts of THC. This of peppers. Would you substitute a habanero pepper for a green bell pepper when topping a pizza? Would you place a bet on a beagle winning a dog race when racing against greyhounds?
Companies such as FlexForm in Elkhart, IN use hemp fiber for automotive composites. They can use any fiber they choose as the product is not marketed to users for being "hemp." They currently blend 50% hemp and 50% kenaf fiber to produce their matting material. They pay more for hemp fiber due to its material characteristics, which are superior to other natural fibers. Engineers could care less if the fiber is hemp, kenaf, flax, etc. They have tolerances that need to be met or exceeded -- and they prefer hemp fiber. The only problem they have is obtaining enough. Ontario is currently building 1-2 new hemp plant
Hi John, the American people have already been conned by the Government regarding the issue of Cannabis in all it's many cultivars, your piece here is a diservice to getting over the Marijuana bugaboo 1930's-2009. The only way to turn this economy around is through the farmers fields - practically anything you can make from petroleum you can make from the farmers fields & hemp is one of those plants that will do the least harm to environment & offer a great opportunity to create industry. You can find that out from Henry Fords research & I'll be he wasn't a "druggie"
Generations have been confused & you are perpetuating that with this piece.
I love the end of the 1938 Popular Mechanics issue & I have the original-Hemp The New Billon Dollar Crop "hemp & marihuana as a crop seem to be exagerated".
The truth will come out - yes folks do the research whether it's medicinal or recreational cannabis or hemp - 800,000 plants per acre, carbon negative 8-18ft tall 90 days.wow!Justsayknow!
this old fart is still hanging on the the goverment propaganda from the 30's. Yea we like our pot, are we bugging you? do we potsmokers break into your house and steal to get your valued possions? no most pot smokers just want to realx at the end of the day and have the same rights that we had taken away. how would you feel if your rights as reporter, (which you aint much of!) were suddenley taken away or better yet how about that glass of wine, you occasionaly drink? how would u feel if the government said as of tonight anyone in possion of alcohol will be arrested and taken to court and have it permintly put on you criminal record, causing the lose of your job your kids taken away and eventually your home taken away because of one glass of wine or beer?
THE WORLD NEEDS A JOINT!!!!!!!
Mr. English, I actually agree with you that hemp is not the wonderplant many paint it out to be. We have a worldwide hemp industry with most industrialized nations allowing hemp production (cannabis sativa varieties). It's not replacing oil like some say it would. It's not even being used on a commercial basis as a biofuel feedstock. It's not replacing wood pulp for paper making. There are many potential uses for it but there is almost always something cheaper and/or better to use.
Once again though you have not done your research. Many of the alternative hemp varieties you listed in your article are actually varieties of cannabis sativa. Indica, for instance, is a high THC variety of cannabis sativa that is prized by pot smokers, but not so good for fiber production. Should our farmers should be able to grow that? The others you listed aren't even true hemp. They are fibrous plants, but not really hemp. Datisca, for instance, is known as "bastard hemp" or "false hemp.
Spontanea, Borealis, Medioruthenica, Australis, Asiatica are all cannabis sativa, or marijuana, but none are prized for smoking like Indica.
Mr. English, are you currently participating in some kind of an (extremely) creative writing course? Everyday you write some ludicrous musings as to why we shouldn't legalize cannabis.
Has something dramatic happened in your life recently? As you're getting older are you feeling guilty for not doing more to end the brutal cartel murders that are almost 100% fueled by our prohibition on marijuana?
I know this guilt can eat into you late at night when you think of all the lives you could have saved and the fear and misery you personally could have helped to avoid.
It's not too late Mr. English. People are still being murdered every day. Use your computer to save their lives.
Hemp not a success? You are judging an entire industry based on the corruption that circulated around Consolidated Growers and Processors (CGP) circa 1998.
Well, that was a failed business that got farmers to grown hemp fiber, then did not have a processing plant for the fiber. That does not mean hemp is not a great fiber. Look at all the oil companies that drill for oil, and miss. Does that make oil an unsuccessful business? Of course not.
As for badly ran companies, look no further than GM and Chrysler. By your rationale, unsuccessful businesses should "prove" that they are not worthy. Well, should we stop building cars? How about the unsuccessful War on Drugs?
Better yet, how about looking at the current hemp seed, not fiber, industry in Canada? With everything going against them (US Customs, DEA), the hemp food segment has grown to $25 million in just a few years. An additional $50 million or more in sales of oil for body care products are sold each year as well.
Legalize it. Treat it like alcohol plain and simple. End black market and violence.
1st of all, Im so sick of the Gateway Drug Argument. Alcohol is the ULTIMATE GATEWAY DRUG. Its probably 90% of peoples first buzz. And if they like it, the want more. None of my successful friends that smoke got into heavy drugs like coke.
It's a shame that the people who get addicted and kill themselves with crack & cocaine get wrapped in the same category as an adult that want to smoke a joint on a Friday night..... What a weird world.
Once its legal it will be exciting for the first 3 months. After that, the people who smoke now, will probably smoke the same amount. And the people who wont, simply wont. Not much will change.
And if treated like alcohol. Kids will have as much access to it as a 6 pack of beer. In otherwords, if regulated, kids cant get it.
So legalize it. And to the folks that say NO and that have never done it, what right do they have to judge it?
drivel
LMAO at Mr. English, I think Mr. English needs to read your book Jack, before he writes any more articles on hemp! All that want to know the truth about hemp should read "The Emperor Wears No Clothes" and stop reading the govenment propaganda (lies) that Mr. English is trying to pass on to his readers.
HAHA you're an uneducated fool who's discussing a topic that you know nothing about... it's both sad and hilarious: like a puppy attacking a tiger.
Cannabis refers to a genus of flowering plants that includes different species. Hemp is just a different term for cannabis... and hey I'm actually more concerned that we legalize the industrial, non-flowering, male version of the plant than I am the one the gets you high.
However the only reason the one that gets you high is illegal is so that we can correlate it with the industrial version
But you would have to actually show some sort of desire to learn about what you're speaking about to know that... Instead you'll continue to spit out baseless lies and try and misinform people.
It's really hard for me to contemplate what goes through the head of someone as manipulative as yourself. Do you enjoy lying to people? Or do you even know that you are doing it?
I want to help you, I just can't until you begin to try and help yours
John, You really need to read an article in your own Examiner.com site June 1... check it out

Wow, you are VERRRY ignorant john english!
Hemp is extremely easy to crow as a crop (that's why it's called weed). Not only is it easier to grow and process for fiber than cotton, it replenishes the soil...unlike cotton that devastates the soil quality. Don't believe me, look it up!
As far as paper goes...One acre of hemp can be grown in 3-4 months, and can produce the same amount of paper as 4 acres of trees, which take years and years to grow!!
You also failed to mention, that it was once illegal in the United States to NOT grow hemp! It even accepted as payment for taxes!
Hemp is a great and blessed plant. It is a shame that propagandists and dis-information agents like you still spew garbage like this! You should be ashamed for lying to your readers!!!
The village idiot stikes again. But it is the only plant that can feed, cloth, and house us. What a moron.
yeap, he's a village idiot on a global scale :)
This guy needs to do research! how ignorant of an article to write and leaving out the facts. True Hemp (cannabis sativa) is registered by The US import trade tariffs codes. Look at true hemp fibers under a microscope and you will see the big difference.Research the protein and EFA benifits of hemp seed. This guy is a real fool who is angry while writing such a ridicules misinformed article. I had to respond this article because it was so bad and misleading. I have 18 years researching importing and selling hemp products.
Got something to say?
