On Tuesday, the Michoacan state prosecutor’s office announced that the charred remains of 18-year-old Alexis Uriel Marron were discovered in the trunk of a burned-out car in a rural area on Christmas Eve.
The teenager attended Rolling Meadows High School in the Chicago area and was visiting family in Michoacan when he was killed.
Two of Marron’s uncles identified their nephew by the crowns on his teeth.
The bodies of two other young men were found in the car as well.
Robbery is the probable motive for the murders, according to prosecutors.
The area which is close to the Jalisco state border has recently seen many deadly gun battles between the Knights Templar and the upstart Jalisco New Generation cartels.
A memorial service at Rolling Meadows High School is planned for Marron next week when students return after Christmas vacation.
