Candy Camp for Kids! At Brasserie 1605

Cafe Caramel Martini from Van Gogh Vodka
While your kids enjoy Candy Camp at Brasserie 1605 this spring, you can enjoy a chocolate martini.

WHAT'S BETTER THAN providing your children with an entertaining and educational experience in New York this spring and summer? Providing that same experience at a place where you can suck down a couple of martinis while they plearn. Offering up just a fantastical mash-up, Brasserie 1605 is set to launch its 2nd Annual Candy Camp, a candy-making course for kids ages five to 14.

Beginning April 3 and running through August 7, the Times Square restaurant will offer up the one-hour daycamp the first Saturday of each month. Executive Chef Christopher Smith, who conducted last year's cocoa-centric classes will teach "campers" how to create their own chocolate indulgences while giving them a "bean to bag" history lesson on chocolate. In a nod to the Hershey's Store in Times Square (the official Candy Camp "Counselor"), a segment on Milton Hershey is included in instruction.

“I’ve been looking forward to it for months," says Smith, the father of two small children. "It’s such a departure from my normal routine and the youngsters’ observations or questions are amazing, some hilarious, plenty very astute, all priceless.”

Grown-ups are not forgotten as the kids create chocolate lollipops, truffles and chocolate-covered strawberries: Parents/guardians can opt to participate, or hang back and enjoy half-priced chocolate Martinis at the bar (we're guessing you can also order full-priced anything you want). The grown-ups also receive a gift certificate for 25 percent off lunch or dinner on a return visit.

After completing the one-hour program, Candy Campers receive diplomas as "Junior Chocolatiers," good for a personalized "photo bar" at Hershey's Times Square. Their pictures will also appear on the store's new exterior light display.

Candy Camp takes place April 3, May 1, June 5, July 3 and August 7, from 3 to 4pm . Sessions cost $25 and are limited to 12 children per session. For reservations, please call Brasserie 1605 at 212-315-6000.

Brasserie 1605 is located in the Crowne Plaza Times Square on Broadway between 48th and 49th Streets.
