A celebri-quote: Alyson Hannigan

  Alyson Hannigan

• Alyson Hannigan, part of the ensemble cast of the TV series "How I Met Your Mother," and actor husband Alexis Denisof are expecting their first child this spring. She made this comment about her current eating and drinking choices in an interview with US Weekly:

On food: "I basically went from being a vegan to ... well, now it's meat and cheese -- and ginger ale!. ...  I didn't eat any meat or cheese before. Now, I have to."

On drink: She says she craves ginger ale. "Ginger ale, I love. Apparently, my mom craved ginger ale when she was pregnant with me. Maybe it's a hereditary thing."

Bar Tab: Go here for my complete collection of "Celebri-Quotes" on matters of drink. ... And go here for a complete archive of years' worth of reports on alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

    what a moron

“i suddenly found myself craving philly cheese steaks with bacon on top”

well duh! everyone craves philly cheese steaks with bacon on top, but cravings don’t have anything to do with what you need for your health or your baby’s health.

So we throw all our morals out the window because we crave something?

Robert, don't be so hasty to label someone a "moron." Part of proper pre-natal nutrition needed to produce a healthy baby is the right intake of calcium and protein, which are present in cheeses and meats.

That’s bunk! According to the American Dietetic Association she doesn’t have to give up being vegan while she’s pregnant. Here’s what they say at their website:

“Well-planned vegan and other types of vegetarian diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood and adolescence. Vegetarian diets offer a number of nutritional benefits…and have been reported to have lower body mass indices than nonvegetarians, as well as lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease; vegetarians also show lower blood cholesterol levels; lower blood pressure; and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer.”

I would think that not eating all the toxic chemicals and antibiotics in meat and dairy would be the best thing for her baby.

Everyone is saying the same thing. And I agree. You don't need to eat meat "for your baby". It would actually be much healthier to eat tofu, tempeh, rice and beans, quinoa, seitan peas and other vegetarian forms of protein.

The real question is why did shego vegan in the first place???? Most vegans have a social or moral compass which lead them to stop eating animal products. I wish this interview asked her these questions. I stopped eating meat because it didn't feel right. I loved animals too much.

No matter what, I could NEVER go back to eating meat. No way.

I thinks eh was using "have to" in the sense that she finds the cravings irressitible. And it is ehr choice ina free society, isn't it?
