Once again we can thank Twitter @drwholocations for the latest updates on the Eleventh Doctor's current whereabouts. The social channel indicates that Series One filming for Richard Curtis's Van Gogh episode has begun this week in Croatia, in the small coastal town of Trogir. The BBC has also confirmed this location filming information. Information on the filming has appeared in a local blog. A rough translation of the blog can be found here. More information on the filming is available here and here.

As of now there is no information if Trogir will represent a notable location where the artist Van Gogh stayed during his lifetime - such as France, Belguim, or the Netherlands - but it is reasonable to assume, barring any science fiction staple of ressurrection, that the events of the episode will take place sometime before the painter's tragic suicide at age thirty-seven from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in July, 1890.

Episode author Richard Curtis (Blackadder, Four Weddings and a Funeral) has himself informed the public of the actor playing Van Gogh: Tony Curran. Curran's recent credits include appearances on Medium, Primeval, This Life, Underworld Evolution, and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Says Curtis on Curran:

"We've got a brilliant guy playing Vincent van Gogh - which is who it's about - who you should look up on YouTube. He's a guy called Tony Curran, who really could not look more like [him].

"He's a wonderful actor who was in this brilliant movie called Red Road that came out, a rather serious movie. But he's going to be great. I’ve had a lot of fun. We start to shoot in about a month."

Curtis has also reported that his story will feature Van Gogh "stabbing a yellow monster." What a picture that image paints.
