Anyone who has ever tried to responsibly unload an old computer, television or other electronic device knows it is not as easy a task as it should be. Finding a place to take these unwanted devices can be an obnoxious task that usually ends up costing money. But, fear not T-Town residents. The City of Tacoma has recently become involved with the new E-cycle Washington program.

E-cycle Washington is a new program that provides free recycling of computers, monitors, televisions, laptops and numerous other types of electronic products. Consumers, small businesses, school districts and charities are all eligible for free recycling. This program helps keep toxic materials of of landfills, helps conserve natural resources and reduces the amount of energy that is used to make new products.

SBK, Tacoma's #1 Green Computer Electronic Recycler, is offering free pickups for businesses through the end of this month. Items can always be dropped off for free at SBK's Tacoma location, but the company normally charges a fee for pick-ups. SBK accepts the following items for e-cycling:

  • Computers
  • Monitors (CRT, LCD)
  • Printers
  • Laptops
  • Servers
  • Routers, hubs
  • Televisions
  • VCRs, DVD players
  • Stereos and audio components
  • Cell phones
  • PDAs, handheld games
  • Misc. office machines
  • Batteries

SBK accepts almost any computer and electronic devices except household appliances. They are a state certified, E-cycle Washington partner. SBK is located at 10747 A St. S. Suite E Tacoma, WA 98444. Call 253-539-9095, email recycle@sbkrecycle.com or visit their website for more information.
