CD 6 supports Guard Foundation by running in Turkey Day 5K

John Flerlage is a former Marine who is running for congress in CD 6. Like any good Marine Corp officer, John believes that leaders lead by example. Leadership by example is part of the reason he is particating in The Highlands Ranch Turkey Day 5k. His participation sets an example of physical fitness for our youth while raising money for a most worthy cause.

Proceeds from the Turkey Day 5K go to the Colorado National Guard Foundation, which support active guard members and their families. The Foundation was established as a result of the 1991 Gulf War when many Guard members fell on financial hard times because of their deployment. John feels the foundation performs “most essential work, providing aid to those who have volunteered to protect our community and country.” John believes we are all beneficiaries of our service members’ selflessness and it is appropriate for the Highlands Ranch Chamber of Commerce, the business community, and all of us, to support this important organization.

John is a lifelong hockey player who strongly believes in proper fitness. As a former Marine Corp Reserve Lieutenant Colonel, John was required to lead by example. Running is a big part of the Marine Corp and John was a record holder in the 3 mile run for 18 years. Now as a member of the Governor’s Council for Physical Fitness, John can’t think of a better way to bring the community together and set the example for our youth through a physical fitness event where all members of our community can participate in some way.

Come out and see if you can keep up with John. While you are at the run visit John’s booth and learn more about the campaign. The Turkey Day 5K begins at 9:00am with the 5K run/walk and a Kids’ Fun Run begins at 10:00am. This is a true family event with baby joggers allowed at the run and strollers and dogs on leashes allowed at the walk. Beer is served after the run, which you can feel good about after raising money for a great cause and getting some exercise. The certified 5K course starts and finishes at Shea Stadium in Redstone Park. For more information, please visit www.td5k.com
