Earlier this year the Younce-Lyness family began looking for a rescue dog to adopt. They had lost a very special dog the summer before and finding just the right dog to join their current pack of 2 was important to them. The primary goal was to find a dog 3 years old or younger that was not of a dominant personality to become a playmate to their 3 year old very dominant retriever-chow mix, Misty. As they began their search they discovered Petfinder.com. Using the search tool on Petfinder they were able to make many detailed choices about the type of dog they were looking for. Eventually they came across a dog that fit their criteria perfectly – Zander. Zander was the right size, the right age, a gorgeous pit bull-lab-husky mix, and most importantly, non-dominant.
Zander had come to Helping the Helpless Pet Rescue from a shelter in Georgia where he and his 3 siblings were sick and going to be put down. He had been nursed back to health and placed in a dog-loving foster home in Harrisburg, PA. After completing an adoption application and being interviewed by a volunteer, contact with the foster family was encouraged to find out more about Zander. The more they learned about Zander the more they fell in love. A volunteer visited for a home inspection and to meet Zander’s potential future playmates and family. Everything went well and a month ago Zander joined his new family.
Zander was shy for the first few days and very hesitant but quickly befriended Wolfgang. Misty and Zander took a little longer to warm up to each other but are now the best of friends. They run, play, and wrestle like they’ve known each other forever. Zander’s foster family said he rarely barked but Misty has taught him that skill quite well! He is responding quickly to training and loves to cuddle and give kisses. Zander has proved to be a perfect fit and has found his furever home! Zander will be attending the Delaware Dog Fest this Sunday, April 18th, come out to meet an adoption success story!
