Bay cruise for dog sailors and their first mates

Dogs love to cruise on the bay

If your dog is a ball-chasing, sandbox-digging, landlubber, now is your chance to broaden his horizons by signing up for a boat cruise on the San Francisco Bay.

The San Francisco SPCA and Hornblower Cruises & Events are hosting their 5th Annual Dog Day on the Bay, a 2-hour gourmet/champagne brunch cruise on the San Francisco Belle, especially designed for dog lovers and their furry best mates.

While on board, you and your pooch can enjoy spectacular views, wonderful dining at the bow wow buffet, plus doggie entertainment.  I'm planning to bring my dog Abby who is always up for sea-fearing fun.

This Sunday, May 3, boarding begins at 11:00 a.m., at Pier 3 on the Embarcadero.  The cruise is from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m.  There is no charge for doggie sailors.  Each adult can bring one dog.  To reserve your tickets visit www.hornblower.com.

All proceeds from the event benefits the animals cared for by the SF/SPCA.

Roxy waiting for a new home at the SFSPCA

DOGS OF THE WEEK!

San Francisco SPCA

Speaking of those animals, why not consider adopting Roxy (A07458166), a 2-year old lab mix who is a sweet, affectionate gal, but is a bit shy and overwhelmed in new situations.  She is just getting used to life here in the big city, so she is hoping to find a patient family who will help her slowly adjust. Once Roxy is comfortable with her surroundings, she will be a great companion.  SFSPCA

Betty Bean is waiting for you at the Marin Humane Society

Marin Humane Society

Betty Bean
6-year-old
Spayed Female, 15lbs
Chihuahua

Betty Bean’s new forever home should have had some prior experience with dogs. She needs a calm, quiet and relaxed environment. Even sudden movements and harsh sounds make her nervous. We suggest families with older children because she gets overwhelmed easily. Patience will be a great boon for everyone in this situation. But Betty Bean is utterly charming. She very much wants to be your friend, but she isn't sure of the way. Just be consistent and provide her with the guidance and structure she needs. Then your nurturing will allow her to blossom into a wonderful lifelong companion.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Oscar is waiting for you at the Marin Humane Society

Oscar
9-year-old
Neutered Male, 22lbs
Pekingese Mix

Oscar is outgoing and friendly and loves to play with toys. He’s ready to relax and just hang out with his new best friend. He enjoys playing fetch and a good game of tug would be a great addition to his daily exercise routine. Oscar would be appropriate for people who have had experience with one or two dogs. When he meets other dogs he can be a bit conflicted and reactive, so be sure to use careful introductions. His long luxurious coat will need occasional grooming. You couldn’t fall in love with a sweeter guy!

Ideal Home: Best in home with children 12 years or older
