For the first time in Sacramento, Kings basketball is going to the dogs. Literally. The Kings have teamed up with the Sacramento SPCA (SSPCA) to raise awareness for homeless dogs (and cats) in our area. The Collared by the Kings promotion is a great way to show your support for both organizations and help needy pets in Sacramento at the same time.

The Collared by the Kings and SPCA ticket package is available for most home games, starting with tonight’s game against the Utah Jazz. For $49.50, the package includes a lower bowl ticket, a $79.50 value. Also included is a limited edition Kings/SPCA pet collar and 50% off of pet adoption fees at the Sacramento SPCA.

Although this is the first year that this promotion is being offered, the Kings and the SSPCA have a long-standing relationship. In the past, you may have seen SSPCA mobile adoptions at games. The Maloof family, Adrienne Maloof in particular, has been involved with the SSPCA for many years, especially with the Humane Education programs. Geoff Petrie, President of Basketball Operations, also has a long-standing relationship with the SSPCA and is part of a public service announcement that will play on the big screen during “Collared by the Kings” games.

“Our organization is full of animal lovers, and the issue of animal rescue is near and dear to the hearts of many players and front office staff. When we became aware that pets are more likely to be adopted when they have their photo taken with a celebrity, that sparked the idea. The Collared by the Kings Ticket Package was a great way to connect the team with the community and to a cause that is very meaningful to the players,” says Jaime Morse Mills, Director of Public Relations for the Kings.

This may be the first year for the “Collared by the Kings” promotion but the Sacramento community can look forward to more teamwork between the Kings and the SSPCA in the future. “I know we’ll continue our relationship with them,” says Lesley Kirrene, Director of Public Relations for the SSPCA.
