Quick shout out: It's time to highlight two local rescue organizations that are making a big difference. Indigo Rescue and Oregon Dog Rescue - they're both smaller with less resources than the big guys and need donations! First, Oregon Dog Rescue has a dog named Henry, partially blind, and in the midst of being rehabilitated. He has juvenile onset cataracts in both eyes. If not operated on, he may become completely blind. In order for Henry’s life to be as normal as possible, they are trying to raise money to pay for his surgery. Please donate if you can!

Indigo Rescue has more dogs than ever before. They work very hard to take dogs out of shelters and as of earlier this month there were 60 dogs that needed to be either fostered and/or adopted.Check out their Web site to find out when they're at PetSmart on Walker Rd. in Beaverton each month and you can come and meet the furry kids that are up for adoption.

More about Oregon Dog Rescue:

Oregon Dog Rescue is an all-breed, no-kill shelter. It is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization started by two dedicated women with twelve years of experience with rescue dogs. An all-volunteer group, Oregon Dog Rescue is devoted to placing the dogs in the best homes and assuring the long-term success of the adoption. We are available for follow-up care and for the lifetime of the pet. Our team includes a network of professionals who are available to assist with the well being of the animals.

The volunteers of Oregon Dog Rescue assess each incoming dog for medical and behavioral issues prior to placing them in homes. Each pet is wormed, flea-treated, spayed or neutered, and given necessary shots. Photos and descriptions of each dog are placed on our website which links into Petfinder.com. The dogs reside in foster homes during the week, where training is continued. Weekly adoption events are held on Saturdays at the Tualatin Petsmart, except for an occasional off-site event.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Deb Bowen at (503) 819-1720 or Krystyna Schmidt at (503) 548-3428.

More about Indigo Rescue:

Indigo Rescue is a volunteer animal rescue organization that launches and maintains programs to assist county animal shelters. Through partnerships formed with shelters, Indigo Rescue intervenes by taking animals who have run out of time in the shelter environment, rehabilitating them in foster homes before placing them in adoptive homes. The organization continues to develop and launch convenient and practical spay/neuter programs designed to encourage people to have their pets altered.

Indigo Rescue also develops new programs to discourage surrender of companion animals to shelters, and increase likelihood of permanent placement. Efforts include offering consultation, resources and support to individuals from the community who are making the effort to help the abandoned animals find a permanent home. The group focuses all of their placement efforts on making compatible matches to ensure a better likelihood of people keeping their commitment to their pets for their entire lives. They encourage people to make a soul connection with pets, rather than one based on appearance, and to consider whether the energy level, training needs and length of a pets life is something the feel they can commit to. Indigo Rescue likes to refer to themselves as the “match.com” of people and pets.

Indigo Rescue was founded in 1998 and is a registered non-profit 501(c)3 organization.
