On June 5, a courageous Rottweiler found himself the victim of a vicious home invader.  While valiantly defending his home and family, the dog sustained massive injuries from 4 bullets as his owner, and his Rottie sister, were shot to death before his very eyes.

The NYPD did not turn their back on the courageous dog. The officers rushed the bullet-ridden dog to Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists where he underwent emergency surgery.

Six hours later, and minus a front leg that had to be amputated, the dog emerged from surgery. The 125-lb Rottweiler was alive, but he had lost so much during his traumatic ordeal.

Thunder was in a precarious position. He had lost his owner, his home, and his leg, and he would need time to heal, and to be rehabilitated. Knowing that special help was needed, the Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists staff contacted the men of Rescue Ink.

Rescue Ink, a unique army of tough-talking, tattooed animal advocates, stepped up and agreed to take in Thunder.

Eric Bellows of Rescue Ink, will be caring for Thunder in his home - teaching the dog to walk on 3 legs, and providing him with the care that he needs to fully recover.

Though the dog, now known as Thunder Joe, will need several weeks of rehabilitation, the group feels that he is worth it. The men of Rescue Ink are all about second chances, and they are certain that a valiant dog like Thunder Joe, is certainly deserving of his second chance.

These do amazing things everyday. As a rescue worker myself, I wish to God I had them with me in CT. People that abuse animals, abuse because of a perceived weakness. I am a younger female and not incredibly tough or strong or intimidating, and people with animals try to walk all over me. But I have none of it. There is a fear from my family that I will be arrested or worse, but as I have said in the past, I'd much rather go down vigilant in my cause than sitting on the couch. I never realized how ugly and dangerous and cruel some people are. These men are blessed and clearly demonstrates that no one should be judged by appearance...these men are angels!!!!!!!!
