I wrote an article last month about dining out with dogs, and I mentioned some dog-friendly dining spots in Brickell. At that time I had no personal experience, only heresay to go on. That has changed. Since Leo and Lucy have shown that they can behave in public places and let me enjoy my meal and the people keeping us company there, we have been to two dining establishments in Brickell now.
For Leo's birthday, his Aunt Andee took us all to Segafredo. As I mentioned in the earlier piece, they offer free evian water for the dogs and they have a dog menu, as you can see if you click on the link. While our fried calamari, fried mozzarella, and pizza were all fabulous and delicious, the pets menu was neither. The menu boasts dry, wet (canned) or grilled options. All we saw on the pet menu that was handed to us was canned. Luckily the canned food was the same brand as the dry food I feed my babies at home, I ordered them the apple strudel that arrived looking like wet cat food. Leo refused it, but Lucy seemed to enjoy it. They also had some calamari and some focaccia, which they seemed to enjoy. The people food gets two paws up, but the dog food left a lot to be desired. What we went there for was not available to us, so we were disappointed. The servers were nice, and relatively attentive, for Miami.
This past weekend, we met up with Hankie and his momma and the five of us went to Sushi Siam. While I have ordered from them many times, it was a completely different experience sitting on their outdoor patio with a friend and neighbor, as my babies and their friend Hank lay on the floor beside us. We shared some Tiger Tear (which is to die for!) and Jackie and the babies shared some tuna sushi. Then we shared some fried rice and some beef with clear noodles. The highlight of our experience there was the reaction of our poor waiter. He was terrified. He took our order from behind a planter. H was kind enough to bring us everything we asked for, including a pitcher of water for the babies, but from a safe distance. And while we were eating our main course, the flies arrived, and my Leo the great protector, barked at them to let us eat in peace. The face on the poor waiter, who was at that moment about three or four tables away, was complete horror. I felt sad for him, but Jackie and I could not help but laugh. Poor old Hank was lying down as stoic as he always is, and I must say my babies were very well behaved. So the point is, they allowed us and they served us graciously, but the waiter was not very happy about our being there.
Since I now know that my babies are able to go and sit and be in public, we will try out more places and share our opinions with you as we go. Happy doggie dining!
