Weiner Dog Races at the Sam Houston Race Park
This Weekend's Dog Events
The 2nd annual Wiener Dog Races (presented by Barks 5th Avenue) will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the Sam Houston Race Park.
This is a family fun event where Dachshunds race and compete just like racehorses; in fact, the Wiener dog races will take place between the Thoroughbred horse races.
ENTRY DETAILS
Deadline
The deadline for entering your Dachshund is today, Wednesday, February 10, 2010 (by 5 PM) so act now if you want your Wiener dog to race.
Fee
The registration fee per dog is $25 which includes a racing shirt for your Dachshund. Click here for the registration forms and rules. The form, proof of vaccinations, and payment (credit card details) should be faxed to (281) 807-8754 or a dropped off (with a check payable to SHRP) at the Sam Houston Race Park, 7575 N. Sam Houston Parkway West Houston, TX, 77064
CUTEST PET COSTUME CONTEST
If you do not have a Dachshund, don’t fret because there will be a Cutest Pet Costume Contest that is open to all dogs, and is free to enter. All you have to do is register on-site if you would like your dog participate.
OTHER EVENTS
There will also be a dog social and a variety of pet (and human) vendors, so this is the perfect event for every pet lover.

I would love to see a race like this. There is a Flyball team that is all dachshunds They are appropriately named the
"Dash Hounds"
Cute event, the dog races. This is to Sherri --- I have been told by veterinarians that some dachshunds can be very aggressive. Example -- the case of my friend who had two dogs, a dachshund and a teacup poodle. The dachshund attacked the teacup, killing it instantly. I don't know if you should blame yourself Sherri because this breed is not necessarily as placid as one might think.
