Dog fun, or fun with dogs, or fun watching dogs - got it all this weekend!

It's a warm spring weekend in Atlanta, with lots of sun, and plenty of dog-fun for you to get into. Whether you are the athletic one or your dog is, there's plenty to keep you both happy today and tomorrow.

Today is the first annual Dog and Best Friend Run to benefit north Georgia shelters. It's at the Habersham Recreational Center on highway 17 in Clarksville, and there are two race lengths - one mile and three mile. Rural Georgia shelters make do with very little funding, so need all the help they can get, and runners choose which shelter(s) they would like their fee to go to: Habersham, White, Union & Towns, Raybun, Stephens, Franklin & Hart, Madison & Oglethorpe or Peach Tree State Partners. For runners who would like to participate but haven't registered yet, get there before 8 with a filled-out registration form, which can be found here.

And if you're looking for a new furry best friend, all eight shelters will have adoptable pets available. This is a family-friendly, day-long event, so take a ride in the North Georgia mountains and join the fun.

Like bargains? Like Boxers? Atlanta Boxer Rescue is having a benefit yard sale this morning from 8 to noon at Dogma Dog Care in Smyrna. Donations have poured in for this event, and you never know what treasures you'll find. While you're there, be sure to get a tour of Dogma, and see the lovely facility available for your dog's comfort and joy.

Atlanta Obedience Club is hosting agility trials this weekend at Wills Park Equestrian Center. This is fast-paced fun for people and their dogs, and is a great spectator sport. A beautiful spring day, a lovely park, and dogs having fun running obstacle courses - what could be more fun?

For more fast-paced, high-flying fun, head for Kingston, GA and the Atlanta Steeplechase for the nation's best Frisbee dogs, competing in the US Disc Dog Southern Nationals. The competition is in the infield at the Atlanta Steeplechase event, and begins at 10am. The Greater Atlanta Dog and Disc Club is the host club for this major event in Frisbee competition.

No matter what you're up to this weekend, make time for you and your dog to have fun outside.  Southern spring weekends are made for furry fun.
