The economic climate has not been particularly sunny of late. What happens to the family pet when times get tough? Lucky for Des Moines, the Pet Project Midwest is there to help.
Courtney Tompkins, Outreach Chair for the Pet Project, says the Pet Project's goal is to "keep pets with the people who love them." The Pet Project works with the local area human food banks to provide food, litter, and general supplies to those families who need a little extra help with their pets. Ms. Tompkins said that the Pet Project has already helped out 498 pets. Not bad for a company started less than a year ago.
The Pet Project Midwest is 100% donation driven and volunteer run. Donations can be left at any of the DMARC red barrels at area supermarkets, donation cans at local area business, or through their website at thepetprojectmidwest.org. Volunteers are always needed to help package food for clients or help at community events.
The Pet Project Midwest also runs Iowa Pet Alert. Think Amber Alert for pets. You can instantly post a lost or found pet and have thousands of people know about it. The Pet Project Midwest is on both facebook and twitter.
