"Hi, I'm Reese (like the peanut butter cup)! Yummy, aren't I? I came to Tri County with a terrible injury to my face and jaw, possibly from being kicked. I'm feeling much better now and I'm ready to leave those bad memories behind me. I'm a two year-old neutered male Dachshund, weighing in at about 20 pounds and yes, I DO know I'm short...good things come in small packages!
I'm sweet and I love people. I deserve the good life so if you've got A/C and lots of treats, we may be a match made in heaven! I'm a happy and outgoing guy and I like kids and other dogs. Maybe cats, too, who knows? I KNOW you think I'm cute, so let's meet and seal the deal!"
Reese is waiting for you at Tri County Humane Society, a no-kill animal shelter in Boca Raton. (View the video below to learn more.)
Dachshunds are a wonderful breed that is part of the 'Hound' group. Their name means "badger dog" because they were developed in Germany to be low-to-the-ground dogs used for hunting badgers. They have a strong chase instinct and fairly high energy level.
Dachshunds like to keep busy, and if they become bored they may get into trouble. They enjoy playtime with you or their dog siblings and especially like hide-and-seek games and fetch. They are clever, curious and lively. They make good indoor dogs and are usually quiet. They're very good at digging, so shouldn't be left unattended in a yard.
With a life span of 12-15 years, Reese has a lot of love to give you. You'll want to watch his weight carefully, as Dachshunds are prone to becoming overweight and this causes health and spine problems for them. (Don't let him tell you differently!)
Meet and adopt Reese at Tri County Humane Society, 21287 Boca Rio Road, just 1 mile south of Glades Road and just west of the Turnpike. Shelter hours are Tuesday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Closed Mondays). View other Tri County dogs for adoption, click here.
