Unless you have been living under a rock for the last couple weeks, you have undoubtedly heard about the fracas in late night television.
Tonight is Conan O’Brien’s last stint as host of the “Tonight Show”. He will depart with the admiration of his fans and enough money to cover him and his staff, but he will lose something besides his job.
Much of the standard material he used during his entire tenure at NBC is considered by contract to be the “intellectual property” of the network, including the character of Triumph the Comic Insult Dog.
Will Triumph make one last appearance on the show tonight? Or will he unceremoniously be put to sleep (along with another fan favorite character “The Masturbating Bear”)?
The wise-cracking, puppet pooch premiered in 1997 on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and was best known for making fun of people at such scenes as “The Attack of the Clones” premiere, a Bon Jovi concert, and his signature catch phrase “for me to poop on”.
Triumph, voiced by veteran writer Robert Smigel, will live on in our hearts, and youtube.
Below is a clip from Hulu (also owned by NBC) displaying Triumph in a recent “Tonight Show” bit at a Southern California pet boutique.

Alas, Triumph, you, like the viewers, “have been pooped on”.
