Just one of the many wonderful pets adopted from YWAC
As many of you have heard, Young-Williams Animal Center currently is holding close to 50 dogs from a recent Knoxville hoarding case. The dogs, many of which were emaciated, unsocialized, and covered in their own excrement when they were removed from a South Knoxville home on April 22nd, are a combination of medium and large mixed-breeds. While 28 were euthanized due to extreme health and behavioral issues, the remaining 47 are undergoing medical treatment for a myriad of maladies. Their care also includes carefully prescribed weight gains and behavioral assessments as initial steps toward recovery and eventual adoption. This will take an extended period of time, which restricts space in an already crowded shelter.
In order to alleviate this space crunch, shelter staff is encouraging people to come to Young-Williams to adopt any of the available dogs and cats currently housed there. This also will create space for the almost fifty animals per day that enter the facility from Knoxville and Knox County and provide homes for wonderful pets that so desperately need it.
Thanks to the enormous generosity of the citizens of Knoxville and Knox County, ample support has been provided for both the care and feeding of the dogs from the hoarding situation. Now your help is needed to provide homes for the other animals in the shelter.
