Driving down Hamilton Avenue on any Thursday night will elicit sound pouring onto the streets from the local taverns. Coinciding with the regular Scooter night at the Comet, Offline produced a steady dollop of bass and funk as Neck Bone Circuit (NBC) once again invaded the Northside music scene. As purveyors of the Cincinnati dance music scene, NBC has done numerous events in the area over the course of several years. Bringing this experience to the table, Offline carried the type of vibe and atmosphere that NBC is notorious for.
Hailing as one of Cincinnati's favorites, Heather "Beat Poet" Garver was the signal artist of the night. As one of the few remaining all vinyl Djs in the region, her strict regimen of classic audiophile sound brought life to the dance floor. Straying from her prevalent house sound, breakbeats permeated her DJ set and enraptured the crowd. The techy bass sound was a nice warm up to the drum n bass that would comprise the rest of the evening.
Hatchet Jimmy, founding member of NBC, was the exceptional drum n bass pick of the night. As his set meandered from the dark and grimy sounds deriving across the pond, to the reggae influenced dub sound of his b-side 45s, Jimmy had the Comet on fire. Utilizing his all vinyl collection, the commotion was only halted momentarily as the dancers caused the record to skip. Jimmy laughed, as this was a pure indication that he had driven his fans into a welcomed frenzy.
As Cincinnati shifts into high gear for summer, NBC plans for multiple Offline events, offering electronic music fans many different styles ranging from dubstep and drum n bass, to house and techno. Future events can be found at Cincinnati Underground on the web. You can also check out Beat Poet's website for music downloads, bookings, and more.
