Ever since Bakerella introduced them a few years ago, cake pops have become a popular treat for any occasion. Melted candy coating gives cake pops its chic and professional look that makes it a perfect DIY wedding favor. You can easily reflect your wedding colors in your cake pops or create different characters and shapes to reflect your wedding theme.
There are several ways to make cake pops:
- “Classic” - Bake a 9x13 sheet cake of your choice and crumble the cake into a bowl. Mix with one can of frosting. Roll the mixture into balls and place aside.
- “Baked” – Purchase a cake pop maker or pan in which you can bake your cakes into a cake pop shape. Babycakes Cake Pop Maker makes 12 cake pops at a time.
- “Purchased” – Skip the baking and buy donut holes instead!
Once you have cake balls, you are ready to assemble your cake pops. Before inserting a lollipop stick or cookie stick into the cake ball, dip each stick into melted candy coating and insert into the cake ball. The candy coating will keep the cake pop in place once it hardens. Once you have inserted the sticks into each cake pop, dip the entire cake pop into the candy coating to create a smooth shell around the cake pop. Use a Styrofoam brick to hold the cake pops while they dry.
There are endless decorating possibilities! See Bakerella’s blog for some amazing ideas.
For your wedding favors, fill bud vases or shot glasses with candy and insert a cake pop into each glass. Your guests will love munching on something both beautiful and delicious.
Have fun!
