DIY Fix it: Simple clothes dryer maintenance tricks and tips
Considering the costs of buying a large appliance like a clothes dryer, it makes sense to learn some simple maintenance tricks and tips. You want it to last a long time and work well, not take hours to dry a single load. Fortunately dryer maintenance is so simple that anyone with a screwdriver and less than a thirty minute investment can do it.
First pull the dryer out away from the wall and unplug the unit. You will need access to the back of the machine, so it may take a second person to help you lift and pull it out. You will see a clamp on the hose. Use a screwdriver to loosen the clamp and free the hose. Once you can access the hose you will want to inspect it carefully for lint build up. Clean all lint from the mouth of the hose, inside the hose or even outside where the exterior vent is. Double check that outside vent as that is an area that many people neglect and it can make a big difference in the performance of your dryer.
It will take you a few minutes to re-hook the hose clamp and get your dryer plugged in and ready to go again.
By taking your time and following these steps to clean out your dryer, you ensure your dryer will work more effectively. Cleaning out and reducing the lint away from the machine will also reduce the chance of a fire. A simple project with immediate results!
