Kim Hess Divorce Guru says get rid of California's Proposition 8 which banned gay marriage. Let gay people marry and divorce just like straight people do!

Today starts an unprecedented federal trial dealing with Prop 8, a 2008 ballot measure approved by California voters, and the right to marry. Opposition to Prop 8 (those who support same sex marriage) called marriage "one of the most vital personal rights," according to the Los Angeles Times. A lawyer defending California's ban on gay marriage stated that "same-sex matrimony a risky and novel "experiment."

Kim Hess Divorce Guru agrees with this lawyer...that marriage, be it same-sex or opposite-sex is a risky and novel experiment. An experiment we should all have the legal right to pursue be it in love, raising children, having companionship, or just legal basics such as health insurance and wills.

Theodore Olson, who is an attorney representing two same-sex couples challenging Proposition 8, told the court that marriage was "central to life in America."

Though this Divorce Guru is happily divorced, she was once happily married and completely agrees that marriage is an important part of American life. And to legally limit that right to certain relationships is not only unfair, but is very un-American. Freedom for all your Divorce Guru wonders?

Prop 8 looks like legally sanctioned hate against homosexuality. Two heterosexual losers with no intention of having children can get married with little resistance if they complete the proper paperwork. But two constructive and productive homosexual members of society can't get married because they can't have children? The popular argument that the purpose of marriage is to bare and raise children doesn't hold water in a society where parents can get divorced even if they have children. But alas in a free speech society in which the majority holds sway some speech can earn credibility with the majority even if it doesn't hold water because the majority is allowed to be ignorant and uneducated as well as irrational and illogical. Witness the slavery imposed on Africans and the murder of "witches" in the 17th century.

no. the purpose of marriage between a man and woman is so that they become one, union of two people, man and wife, not necessarily to procreate children, which is a choice between the couple. the will of the people of california has spoken. they can't overturn everything once it's law. this is not a slam against gay people, they still have civil unions in their favor, it's a lower form of state sanctioning, not really marriage, which is what they really want like straight people.
