Jill Jordan hired as NAWBO Greater Detroit Chapter Executive Director

NAWBO Greater Detroit has hired coach and personal branding expert, Jill Jordan, as Executive Director to lead the local chapter of NAWBO in its 30th anniversary year while saying good bye to Amy Marshall who held the position for the past five years.

Jill is founder and principal of Get Ahead by Getting Known, a personal image branding and networking coaching firm with a client roster of entrepreneurs, professionals, and corporate and non-profit executives. She helps clients clearly and confidently articulate their message in order to stand out from the sea of competition. She has been involved in many women’s organizations over the years and is passionate about growing and connecting our local talent.

Amy Marshall has been the rock of the organization over the years and has recently relocated to beautiful San Francisco Bay Area. Amy has been handling the Executive Director from a distance and is passionate about the continued growth of the organization. Coming from a very large family, her roots will bring her back from time to time. Amy will be missed by all but will remain a NAWBO member and a friend.

The National Association of Women Business Owners was founded in 1975 and the Detroit Chapter is the oldest and largest of its over 7,000 member, 80 chapter base. The NAWBO’s Women’s Business Conference (WBC2010) takes place June 9-11th in Washington D.C. -- where 35 years ago, a dozen like-minded businesswomen gathered to share information, create an atmosphere of professional community and further strengthen their entrepreneurial interests. This year’s conference theme “The Power of One” celebrates NAWBO’s heritage and the many firsts women business owners have achieved to lay the groundwork for opportunities that exist today.

The local chapter is looking to a “New NAWBO” as Jill calls it. “We continue to evolve and change. Just like a season -- we are never the same. And those people, companies, and organizations that can adapt quickly and see how our current challenges lead us to opportunities, they will see the success. Having the opportunity to work with an organization that understands the power of collaboration and yet appreciates the “power of one” -- who knows where this will take us! I’m excited to work with our board and the community in building a new NAWBO brand.”

Leah Arnold, President, shared with the members today at their Annual Chapter Awards Luncheon that this new frontier is no different then earlier frontiers we’ve experienced. Women small business owners will create 5 to 5.5 million new jobs across the U.S. by 2018, transforming the workplace of tomorrow into a far more inclusive, horizontally managed environment. (Source: The Guardian Life Small Business Research Institute) We want to have a large percentage right here in our home town.
