Walt Disney Parks and Resorts

Walt Disney World Resort inspires something of a “eat dessert first” celebration in itself, but Disney encourages guests to make their celebratory trips to the Mouse even more memorable. To personalize a guest’s theme-park vacation, Walt Disney World (WDW) has several options for ordering special-occasion and custom cakes, perfect for observing a birthday, first trip, anniversary or another special occasion.

Disney’s Cake Hotline and Cake Ordering
Guests who want to order a WDW special -occasion cake for a Disney restaurant should call Disney’s Cake Hotline: 407-827-2253. Disney does not offer a website or email address for ordering cakes. Cake orders require a minimum of 48 hours advance notice, and the hotline is open Monday – Friday. Cake service is available at most table-service restaurants.

These custom cakes may be made with a variety of cakes, flavors and shapes. They may also personalized with icing and decorations. Cast members at the Cake Hotline will help direct guests to the appropriate restaurant and to choose the appropriate size, flavors and personal decorations – including names, photos, flowers, Disney characters. Cakes may be themed to movies or WDW attractions, and incorporate 3-D art. Prices will vary with size of cake and amount of personal decoration.

For cakes delivered to resort rooms, WDW guests staying at Disney Resorts with Private Dining – essentially Disney Deluxe Resorts – should contact their resort directly. Guests staying at other WDW resorts should contact Disney’s Cake Hotline, as cakes may be available for pick-up at their resort’s foot court or restaurant.

Cakes may also be ordered for pick-up only at The BoardWalk Bakery.

To see what kinds of cakes have been ordered – including some innovative fancy and fondant-covered cakes – and their costs, visit the DISboards Cake Chatter and Cake Photo Gallery I and Cake Gallery II threads.

Author’s note: I highly recommend looking at these thread, gathering ideas and saving pictures, before calling Disney’s Cake Hotline. This will allow you to be as specific as possible when ordering. I also recommend calling well in advance to order, then confirming your cake order 48 hours in advance.

Walt Disney World Pick-Up Cake Options at The BoardWalk Bakery
The BoardWalk Bakery uses an ordering form which provides insights into standard cake options. These cakes range from a 6-inch round cake for 4 – 6 people to a full sheet that serves 80 people. Prices range from $21 to $120, plus the cost of any special decorations (on cakes 10-inch and up, between $30 – $55).

BoardWalk Bakery cakes may be made of chocolate, vanilla or marble and covered with a white or chocolate buttercream or whipped cream icing. Filling flavors options are buttercream, white or dark chocolate mouse, or fruit mousse. (Note that these are simply the order form's standard options.)

To order these cakes, again call Disney’s Cake Hotline. For more information on pricing, see lurkyloo’s Disney Travel Babble.

Fancy and Fondant Disney Cakes
Guests can also call Disney’s Cake Hotline to order fancy or fondant-covered cakes, which will direct callers to the appropriate restaurant. Prices on fancy or fondant-covered cakes will vary from the BoardWalk Bakery prices, depending on size, decorations or other special requests.

Fancy cakes are available through The BoardWalk Bakery for pick-up only.

Fancy cakes may be ordered for the restaurant at which the guest holds an Advance Dining Reservation (ADR). As with other cakes, fancy cakes must be ordered a minimum of 48 hours in advance and earlier if possible. Generally, fancy cakes can’t be delivered inside the theme parks, with Cinderella’s Royal Table inside the Magic Kingdom Park and some private events being notable exceptions.

Fancy cakes are also available through Private Dining at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club or Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

  • Guests staying at one of these resorts may also have their cakes delivered to their rooms; guests need to be staying at the resort through which they order the cake for room service.
  • Guests staying at the Disney’s Polynesian Resort and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge may be able to have a cake made at Contemporary Resort and delivered; contact either of the resort’s Private Dining for options.

Ready-Make Walt Disney World Cakes
For guests who want to celebrate spontaneously, most table-service restaurants offer a 6-inch ready-made cake that can be requested without advance notice at the time of ADR check-in. These celebration cakes cost $21 plus tax and gratuity. Ready-made cakes are also available at Magic Kingdom’s Main Street Bakery and at some resort food courts.

Disney’s ready-make cakes including a 6-inch frozen round cake that serves 4 – 6 people that costs $21 plus tax. A larger Mickey Mouse head-shaped cake serves 8 people and costs $48 plus tax.

Walt Disney World's Cake Hotline puts the icing on the cake, pun unfortunately intended, for special occasions and celebrations. The Cake Hotline is also a good place to order cakes for guests with dietary restrictions, such as gluten-free or vegan cakes, depending on the dietary needs and restaurant locations.

I love that Disney offers custom ordered cakes, I love the slideshow of the sampling of cakes they make. Now I want to go celebrate my birthday there and get a cake. Maybe they can make me a white chocolate cake with yellow cake. Yummy!

  • Annie, you really have to check out the Cake threads on the DIS! Disney is really quite innovative and the fancy cakes are a marvel. (The cakes I showed you are the "simple," but more affordable, versions.)

I gave my mom a disney cookbook once, and now she wants a disney themed dessert book. thanks for reminding me to give one to her with this article

  • Mike,

I'm not familiar with a bunch of current Disney cookbooks, but am fairly sure Disney has at least a few with desserts – if not one devoted to them. I'll be at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival at the beginning of Oct. and will check then. In the meantime, you might want to call Mickey's Pantry, a Downtown Disney shop that specializes in culinary goods and products. Their number is 407-824-4321.

  • I want that Cinderella cake! What a great idea!

  • This cake is so pretty. What a great service. I would love to get a Disney cookbook or try one of their cakes. Just want to skip the growing older part. Great report.

  • Beverly, see my comments to Mike, above. I'll keep an eye out for new Disney titles at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival.
