The Central Virginia Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society will take to the streets on May 1st for the MS Walk 2010. Last year they had just under 2,000 participants; this year their goal is to have over 2,000 participants.
MS affects an estimated 2.5 million people worldwide, 400,000 in the United States, and 10,000 people in Virginia. Every week about 200 people are diagnosed. It is often diagnosed in individuals aged 20-50, although individuals as young as two and as old as 75 have developed it. It is the most common neurological disease leading to disability in young adults.
There are many ways you can "Join the Movement" at the MS WALK 2010: create a team, join a team, walk as an individual, become a virtual walker, create a volunteer team or volunteer. Doing any of these will keep NMSS moving forward and one step closer to finding a cure for MS. There is no registration fee, but participants must register, and are encouraged to fundraise.
The MS Walk includes a one and three mile courses, lunch, vendors, music and kids play area. It also includes the MS Pooch Parade. You must be a registered walker to participate in the MS Pooch Parade.
Walk begins at:
