Computer games make you smarter?

A little daily stimulation may save your brain

The BBC is undertaking an experiment to determine whether video game stimulation such as in all those new brain training games really works to make you smarter. And, you can take part in the experiment.

Currently, a number of websites are springing up offering brain training. There is some preliminary results that suggest that brain training does appear to affect your ability to think more efficiently. Specifically, an experiment showed that girls who played Tetris daily appeared to improve their thinking efficiency.

So, the next time your significant other or your boss questions why you are playing games on your computer you will have some evidence to show that, "I am developing my brain power."

Stimulation of the brain has been shown to stave off Alzheimer's, so there may be some truth to the studies, but here is thinking, your boss or wife may not be so easily convinced.

Okay, I actually will argue that they do make you smarter. I learned a ton about Norse mythology from Final Fantasy, diplomacy from Civilization, and problem-solving skills from Zelda.
