Some people think in numbers or pictures. I think in food. As soon as the temperature drops, if you could see inside my thought bubble you'd see just one thing: A bowl of soup. I don't even need a spoon.
In honor of my obsession, for the rest of winter I will post a weekly recipe or a great place to get some soup in the Chicagoland area. This week I have particularly exciting news: Starting January 7th, the Hideout is serving homemade soup every Wednesday from 5 to 8pm until April.
Several soupmasters, including Hideout staff, local chefs and maybe even a couple of "celebrities," will prepare a few different soups for those who stop in. According to Martha at Soup and Bread, they'll be trying their best to ensure a vegetarian option, but because the creativity is left up to the soup chefs, it's not a guarantee.
The soup is free, but donations are graciously accepted. All donations will go to the Greater Chicago Food Depository, so dig deep when you're figuring out how much that delicious bowl of soup is worth.
For more information, visit the Soup and Bread website. The "inaugural chefs" are: Hideout bartender Anastasia Davies Hinchsliff, Celestial Kitchens pastry chef Celeste Dolan and Swim Cafe. If you want to be a soup chef, contact Martha at marthacotton@earthlink.net.
