Coming to Baltimore is Small Batch, a day rate community kitchen that will be open 24/7. This project answers the dreams for many an entrepreneur who have a food product they want to produce but lack the space or dollars to create their own food safe kitchen. Small Batch will even provide entrepreneur training for those who want to turn their hobby into a specialty food business.
Not only for food entrepreneurs - let’s talk community gardens
It is nice to say that when you hear the words “growing your own” it now has a good connotation. This summer’s rooftops and reclaimed empty lots are burgeoning with produce from their community gardens. Small Batch is the place where they can take the excess season bounty and safely put it up for the winter season.
Over the years, friends in the food business have been searching for a kitchen to produce their baked goods or a new specialty food product. The kitchen had to be a health department approved, food safe and not their home kitchen. It has been difficult, kitchens of this nature are hard to find and cost prohibitive for small start ups. Small Batch fills that nitch.
Small Batch is another project focused on sustainability brought to you by: Sustainable Urban Infrastructures, Inc. www.sustainableurbaninfrastructures.com. Where as Small Batch has its sponsors One Straw Farm, Mill Valley General Store, and Gunpowder Bison they need your help with upfront costs associated with undertaking such a big and valuable project. You can donate through Pay Pal, check, credit card on their website www.SmallBatch.org or make a donation in person with check or cash at The Mill Valley General Store, just ask for Cheryl Wade. All donors will be invited to the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Small Batch's Community Kitchen is located on the ground floor at 2800 Sisson Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21211, the same building as the Mill Valley General Store. Food-safe classes are required to use the kitchen and will be offered on site. They anticipate opening in September 2010.
