Well this might not be the biggest debate of the century whether to cut a sandwich across or diagonal, it just might be perfect for my readers to discuss. What spurred this subject was an audio interviewing the former food editor of Gourmet Magazine, an architect and professor talking about the merits of the diagonally cut sandwich. The point, both literally and figuratively, that I liked was on the diagonal you have a narrow edge so one, being me, can daintily and less clumsily eat their sandwich. When biting into a rectangular cut sandwich you have excess food on both sides of your mouth. The merits of a greater span of crustless area on diagonal were yet another point of discussion.
Although regular sandwich bread on a heavily laden diagonally cut sandwich might not be enough support for the small corners on a combo sandwich like corn beef, cole slaw and Russian dressing or turkey, ham, cheese, bacon, tomato, lettuce. Could this have been the point, the genesis for the club sandwich?

Slow news day
Karl:
Possibly, just enjoyed the subject matter and thought others would enjoy it as well. LOL, slow news day.
I go cave man.
I don't cut my sandwich at all.
Unless its made on rye. Then I go crosswise.
Very clever idea, Dara!
I'm a diagonal gal. It just makes the whole sandwich thing seem a bit more special.
Got something to say?
