This review is for my Baltimore foodies, so many of you travel to New York and we know New York can be a tad expensive. I have a tasty and cost effective solution if you are open to suggestion. Let me refer you to a particular French Bistro in New York that offers multiple preparations of the best mussels I have ever eaten for $14. (view slide show below)

The restaurant is Jubilee and it is located mid-town on eastside of the city. A small place, long and narrow, we were seated in one of the little nooks in the back near the bar. A healthy portion of bread and butter in a crock were brought to the table. My sister and I opted for mussels, hers the Provencal which are broiled and I chose the curry. We split a salad and the order of fries (which were very crisp and well seasoned) between three of us. The mussels are $14 but for an additional $6.00 you have a choice of a salad or French fries. My brother in law got the rack of lamb and was quite pleased. If you enjoy mussels, definitely seek out Jubilee.

Your readers might also want to know about Flea Market Cafe (131 Avenue A) in the East Village, which I've written about twice in my NY Restaurant Examiner column. (I'd provide links, but these comments won't allow them.) They have a 3-course early bird for $19 (two courses for $17), plus all-you-can-eat mussels on Tuesdays for $18.50. Both specials include a glass of wine or beer.
