December 1st to December 6th is National Cookie Cutter Week – who knew? And December 4th is National Cookie Day, again, who knew? Now you do! This is the time of the year that my friend Riva makes the most delicious and best decorated cookies I’ve ever eaten or seen. She has it all, the colored decorations, the piping – just fabulous. I make it a habit of buying her unusual cookie cutters when I see them which brings me to La Cuisine – The Cooks Resource in Alexandria, Virginia.
The most elaborate cookie cutters I have ever seen are at La Cuisine. Check out the photos, though I’m not sure they do the cookie cutters justice but they are the most intricate and detailed ones I've seen, not your cookie cutter cutters. La Cuisine also has a huge line of hard to find decorations for the cookies as well. The store and catalog culinary business have been serving people all over the world for 30 years and there isn’t much they don’t carry. If you are near Old Town Alexandria, you must stop in and ask for any of the cuisenettes – tell them Dara sent you.
Cookies aren’t just for dessert
Where as cookies are a sweet and usually considered dessert, I think they make a fine breakfast or a precursor to lunch. Don’t you?
As for my favorite cookies, Riva does a sugar cookie with a lime curd and crystallized sugar that I hoard and keep away from the husband. What is your favorite cookie? The husband will tell you his is chocolate chip, but then again he hasn't met a cookie he hasn't liked.

my fav holiday cookie?... wellllll, seeing as how I'm known in my crowd as the NON-BAKER, can't answer the "make" question, but  anything with almond flavoring in it, 'specially if there are cherries involved.
mexican wedding cookies...home made, buttery and still crunchy, for any winter holiday
