Bona sera was the greeting, a kiss on both cheeks as Dr. Francesco Luigi Legaluppi, the Consul General of Italy in Baltimore greeted his guest for the celebration of the 64th Anniversary of the Republic of Italy. On this warm hot night, not even the Lutherville wooded area at the Cloisters could come up with a breeze for the black tie optional dressed guests.
Mary Ann Cricchio of Da Mimmo’s Restaurant was one of the beautiful people dressed in summer white. The Dining Examiner spied attorney at law Jay Block and Anne Arundel College’s Mary Ellen Mason, both who sit on the board for the Italian Cultural Center here in Baltimore.
After a little music, there was a blessing and an appearance by Baltimore’s mayor, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake who declared June 2, 2010 the official Anniversary of the Republic of Italy to be celebrated here in Baltimore. Guests enjoyed a lovely assortment of Italian dishes as seen in the photo slide show. The chilled seafood salad was my top pick for the hot balmy evening. Baked goods were prepared by Simone Martini who is now working with Gino Troia at Grano on Chestnut.
