Antioxidants for anti-aging

Aging seems to be an inevitable biological process that affects most living organisms, but science is attempting to defy age. One of the prevailing theories on the cause of aging is the free radical theory of aging. The free radical theory of aging suggests that free radicals produced by the body are the underlying cause of aging. Environmental toxins, stress and other factors increase the body’s exposure to free radicals, and therefore, cause the body to age even more quickly. Free radicals are highly reactive, unstable molecules that "attack" healthy cells, weakening cell membranes and leading to disease and degeneration. Over 85 diseases, including heart disease, cancer, arthritis, cataracts and emphysema have been linked to free radical damage.

Billions of tons of toxins are dumped into our soil, air and water annually. Every individual living in an industrialized nation, even if he or she lives in the mountains or in a rural area, is bombarded daily by over 10,000 free radical hits. If you live in a large city, work around paints, chemicals, computers or other electronic devices, your exposure is even greater.

Because of the ever-increasing prevalence of free radicals in the environment, the body's ability to fight back is overtaxed. If the body does not have antioxidants available to neutralize these free radicals, the free radicals can go unchecked and form more free radicals in a chain reaction. These free radicals attack your healthy cells and DNA. The need for a high level of antioxidants from foods and supplements is unquestionable. The richest sources of antioxidants are fruits and vegetables. Try to include at least 5 servings of high antioxidant fruits and vegetables each day. Then supplementing with antioxidants gives your body the ammunition it needs to fight back against free radicals, repair damaged cells and tissues, reduce the risk of chronic diseases, increase immune function and decrease infection.

Love this article too and also noted especially for being well researched. All the information I share with others to educate them on the importance of fruits and veggies and the supporting clinical research behind Juice Plus+, that is a catalyst for change.
